What is Steampunk?
Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that gained notoriety during the 1980’s and early 1990’s. The name is derived from “cyberpunk” in the 1980’s regarding science fiction and coined by the science fiction author, J.W. Jeter, who was trying to describe various Victorian science-fiction works, having the term used in a number of entertaining trends, such as stories, video games and fashion.
In the Art/Fashion world, Steampunk is a pseudo-Victorian mechanical style using materials such as polished brass, iron, wood, and leather with artistry and essentials coinciding with the Victorian era. They are eccentric pieces of art that expanded popularity within Goth, punks, cybergoths, industrial music fans and gaming communities, that is a continuous movement towards instituting Steampunk as a culture and lifestyle.

We all love and remember trying to find Waldo. But the real question is will he ever really find himself? I can remember spending countless hours tucked up on the floor, hunched over my beloved Where’s Waldo books. Trying to seek him and his wonderful red and white stripped beanie out. I would meticously find all of the hidden items before moving on to the next one. Man…this is bringing back all sorts of memories…and also reminds me of the good ol’ I Spy books. Who’s with me?

I know the hip cool thing to have is iPhone but more so than ever people are choosing to opt of the close market of Apple and use Google’s Android based phones. Personally I made the switch myself and find it awesome! Being the computer geek that I am, I find it refreshing to not have to be pigeon holed to only approved apps (unless you want to jail break your press decedent for Mr. Jobs).

If you’re like me you grew up playing with LEGOs and probably later in life played chess. Well I actually had the original LEGO Mindstorm set and I loved that thing to no end. Some dudes over at Team Hassen have built the ultimate combination of both. They’ve made a fully playable monster chess set using the LEGO Mindstorm set. How dang awesome is this thing? Check out the videos.

This is just absolutely insane. The geeks over at ARM have used the Lego Mindstorm Kit and a Motorola Droid cell phone to solve a Rubik’s Cube in just over 24 seconds. They call it the Speedcuber and will have it on display at the ESCsv2010.
This Rubik’s Cube solver was designed and programmed using an ARM Powered Android Motorola Droid mobile phone, a LEGO Mindstorms NXT and lots of yellow LEGO technic pieces! The Android App running on the DROID uses the phones camera to take pictures of each face of the cube and sends the solution to the LEGO NXT controller via Bluetooth.

The 28 year old high score record for the classic arcade game Asteroids was broken Monday by a Seattle locksmith, John McAllister. It took the 41-year old 58 continuous hours of play to achieve the new benchmark. To cap his record he entered ELF as his moniker. It will take another 2 months for his score to be verified by the world record officials. The previous high score was set by Scott Safran just three years after the game was released and has held until now. McAllister beat Safran’s score by meager margin of 2,300 points, just edging out the record.
