1. Fooducate

What it is about:

While people grocery shop, Fooducate can direct them to healthier choices. It’s as if a personal dietician is right by their side. When a user scans a UPC code from a product from their smartphone, the app pulls out detailed information on that product that would otherwise not be seen. Usually, products have their secret ingredients, but they no longer have to be secret with this app.

Why is it so great

With easy-to-understand details about products, it makes the travel through difficult-to-pronounce ingredients possible. With the apps grading system, it provides a guide to healthier choices that a consumer would regularly not think about. Even “all-natural” products with bad ratings will have other choices for similar products shown.

2. Nike+

What it is about:

Every serious runner has had a desire to have a personal running coach. Nike+ tries its best to provide that. It shows how many calories you’ve burned during a session and the distance accomplished including the time it took. It also provides GPS, which is really unique for a fitness app. Besides these awesome features, it has a social side to it as well – allowing your friends to interact with you through the app while you are in action. Last but not least, there is a music player within the app as well to keep a runner pumped.

Why is it so great

With all the comprehensive features, you would think it would cost loads of money, but in fact, it is free! It is hard to figure out how Nike pulled this off. This could possibly be the best running app made to date.

3. Sleep Cycle

What it is about:

An innovative iPhone app that allows the user to wake up peacefully. This is how it works: the app detects when the user is in deep or light sleep within a 30 minute time frame and determines when is the best time for the user to be awoken. Instead of being woken up by an alarm that rudely disrupts your sleep cycle, this app ensures that you feel good when you start your day. It also comes with a music player that allows you to not wake up to the usual static.

Why is it so great

Though this is a super-original app, it is only $1 to purchase and uses up only 30% of an iPhone battery so that a user does not have to worry about plugging in their phone at night.

What it is about:

Instead of workout apps that focus on using external equipment, this one looks at what you can do at home to make yourself buff. With over 40 routines, it gives a comprehensive examination to what you can do without a gym and outside help. The routines have been captured on video, so the user can’t get messed up with formal, text-only instructions.

Why is it so great

You don’t need to join an expensive gym or rely on exercise products. With a clean and clear interface, Gorilla Workout is a fantastic addition to any workout enthusiasts’ app library.
