Hey, great article. We love nitric oxide products, including White Flood and NO Shotgun, but it's really more about eating right. I've recently become more into the Primal Blueprint. It's much more natural and how what we're most adapted to follow. Take a look at it sometime and let me know what you think. Anyhow, nice blog - I'm subscribed to your feed now so I'll be checking in regularly!

For me, a buffet is less about filling up and more about the variety it offers. The idea of "getting what you paid for" is not really a consideration. My biggest buffet "rule" would be to scout all stations before putting anything on your plate, as you mentioned, so you know the items that most pique your interest and can eat in descending order of how much you think you will enjoy it and not go overboard.

As far as strategy, we kind of diverge. First I have a leisurely plate of salad and some hopefully not overcooked cooked vegetables to make sure I get _some_ roughage and vitamins in my system. Second I go for samples of the foods I find most intriguing and take at most a spoonful of each. Third I go for "luxury" items (not by price, but by how unhealthy they are), like prime rib or fried foods, and again I take a small spoon/portion of each. Note that 2 and 3 may be all on one plate, depending on the buffet. If I still have room, I will revisit whatever I really liked from 2 and 3, but again I keep the portions small. Dessert, if I have it, is a little bit of fresh fruit from the salad bar. I do avoid starches but only because I rarely eat them anyway.

I agree with most of the stuff stated here and already use MANY of the techniques.

As far as tipping, it is SELF serve, however the servers work VERY HARD to refill your beverages and to clear away your dirty plates. I treat tipping as I would anywhere. If I am happy with the service $1 per person will suffice. If I am ECSTATIC about the service (as is what usually happens at the WYNN BUFFET) I leave more. Once I left $5 per person, but the service at the buffet was amazing (and they kept me kn the fresh squeezed pineapple juice for 2 hours).

On the other hand, if the service is abysmal, (usually meaning no drink refills or allowing dirty plates to pile up) I will leave from $0 to $2 depending on if I received ANY service.

It's important to realize that these buffet servers make minimum wage and will appreciate any additional gratuities. One think I NEVER do is prepay the gratuities, simply because I have no way of knowing how good/bad the service will be, AND I prefer to let servers make their own decisions about the tax status of their tips.

buffet in our area will charge you for wasting food. They are really strict at the chinese seafood buffets about this.
It is a good idea to try and get the check out of the way early to avoid them trying to charge you additionally for wasting food.
get it? got it? good.
