Jerry Seinfeld is at his, well, Seinfeld-est in this spot for the new Acura NSX. Watch as he pursues the number one contender for ownership of the new vehicle and pulls out all the stops he can to convince the contender to trade his spot. Cameos and references to his hit show abound and culminate with a surprise we probably should have expected. Also, Seinfeld’s ability to get around New York at blazing speeds is finally explained. I definitely want what he has…well, maybe not the Soup Nazi. Watch the video:

The doctors and chief surgeons might get most of the spotlight on TV’s biggest medical dramas and comedies but just like in the medical profession, it’s the people that’s supposedly “under” them that deserve some, if not, most of the credit. Surgical technologists, surgical nurses and even anesthesiologists contribute a great deal of work and dedication to ensure their patients’ well being as the big-headed, ego dragging son of a you-know-what who’s just there to do the cutting and sewing when everyone else’s job is done. And while we can’t recognize the efforts of those who do these thankless jobs day in and day out even though all of us should (those of you who can afford to fill a school bus with beer and chocolates should do so now), the least we can do is honor the attempts in TV land to portray this thankless profession with the nobility it deserves.

The Todd from “Scrubs”

He might look like another muscle slicing meathead with no real chance at any other career, outside of beef slicer at an Arby’s. Looks can be deceiving, so don’t let the flaming surgical hairnet fool you.

He’s actually quite an effective and thorough surgeon who not only loves his work as much as he loves the ladies (we assume), but he knows how to think on his feet in an operating room even though he’s usually thinking about other activities that don’t involve standing. Despite all of his obvious, shallow flaws, he can actually be quite the helper in the OR because unlike other surgeons with more advanced brains, he actually “lives in the moment” whether he’s over the knife or the few times he’s under someone else.

Maj. Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan from “M*A*S*H”

In times as dire and extreme as war, a hard-edged, hard-charging and hard working surgical nurse is exactly the kind of person any patient would want in their corner. Other times? Not so much.

Maj. Houlihan, the strict, leggy blonde of the M*A*S*H 4077th Unit who served during the Korean conflict, may have been a huge pain in her shapely and firm ass outside of the OR but when she took the table, she could wrangle a scalpel and pass a suture with the best of them. She’s efficient, responsive, quick and dedicated to her profession and her patients, even if she sometimes lets military logic get in the way of common sense. It also doesn’t hurt that those big blue eyes of hers make wearing a surgical mask and cap a fashion must.

Liz Cruz from “Nip/Tuck”

Plastic surgery might not be the most noble medical profession a human being can enter but it does have it’s own unique moments where ethics are tested and lines are drawn between right and wrong, which is just about every procedure a plastic surgeon schedules.

This anesthesiologist is probably the lone voice of reason in an otherwise extremely corruptible medical facility, as evidenced by the fact that a drug lord with even less scruples than the chief skin cutters almost took down their entire operation. She doesn’t just know the right thing to do in any given situation. She does her job in spite of this to the best of her ability and always puts the patient first, even if the patient would like to put her six feet underground such as the drug lord’s very naive wife who Cruz cares for even though her husband almost killed her.

Martha Masters from “House M.D.”

This intern might have a lot to learn about skirting the basic rules of doctor-patient confidentiality and medical ethics, but she has a firebrand form of dedication to not only serving her patients but the medical profession as a whole, even if those rules get in the way of actually helping her patients.

She reluctantly joins Dr. House’s team, even though she’s still wet behind the ears and House’s job requirements entail not drowning from his daily waterboard torture approach to investigative medicine. Despite her initial misgivings and shyness, she still puts her beliefs and ethics ahead of her introversion and works to help her patients within the ethical boundaries of her practice. This not only makes her a knowledgeable and experienced physician, but one who is also willing to stand up for what she believes, even if it’s in House’s gruff and leathery face.

Lt. Kellye Yamato from “M*A*S*H”

She might not be the most recognizable face at the 4077th but she was there for the camp’s entire run and even though she was lost in the background, she easily has the biggest heart of anyone on the staff.

The “Hey, Look Me Over” episode features Kellye trying to get the notorious babehound Hawkeye Pierce to pay more than a second of attention to her and when Hawkeye fails to even notice her existence outside of the OR, probably because he’s too chicken to face the possibility of rejecting and hurting her by getting close to her, she shows him just how endearing and dedicated she can be by giving a dying and delirious soldier one last moment of tenderness by pretending to be his girl back home as he drifts into death. She has a unique and endearing quality you just can’t train, even in the most experienced surgical technologist .

The wondrously fantastic show ALF was a late 80s classic. TVs favorite Alien Life Form (ALF) ran for 4 seasons with a total of 101 episodes.

The wondrously fantastic show ALF was a late 80s classic. TVs favorite Alien Life Form (ALF) ran for 4 seasons with a total of 101 episodes. All of which have been released on DVD and can be purchased right now (I highly suggest you go get them). You can also catch all episodes on Hulu.

The masterpiece of the talented yet zany Paul Fusco (the man behind the puppet and voice) has warmed many a child’s heart. Mr. Fusco has been trying to reacquire the rights to the show from Hallmark and is also working on a movie that would highlight how exactly ALF ended up on earth. He is also attempting to revive the talk show. I would love to see anything and everything ALF but from the sounds of some Paul is difficult to work with.

This show brought us the Melmacian who lived with the Tanner family and has a taste for feline critters. There have been various articles about life on set but whatever happened to this lovable cast?

Willie Tanner – Max Wright

Since ALF, the 66 year old, has continued to act. He has been in various TV shows including Murder She Wrote, Quantum Leap, Murphy Brown, Friends, Mad About You, The Drew Carey Show and The Norm Show. He also did a little film work including Grumpier Old Men, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Snow Falling On Cedars. He did some acting with the Jewish Ensemble Theatre in Detroit, Michigan in 2007. He was nominated for Broadway’s 1998 Tony Award as Best Actor for his role as Lebedev in Ivanov.

Although Fashion Week may be a joke to some of you, Ed Hardy featured at Fashion Week should be considered a joke to everyone. The trend of Ed Hardy wear will forever go down as one of the ugliest fads of our generation. I’m ashamed to even be around when it occurred. Either way, I hope you’re with me on the fact that this TV program should only exist in Fantasy Land.

It’s a little wild and a little strange…
when you make your home out on the range.
So, start your horse and come along.
‘Cause you can’t get a ride if you can’t hold on.
Singin’ yippee kai aie ay. (Yippee kai aie what?)
Like the cowboys say. (Sing it again now.)
Yippee kai aie ay.
‘Till the break of day.
(You’d better watch out for those man-eating jackrabbits… And that killer cacti!)
Hey Dude!

What a wonderfully awesome show. What’s not to like? Six kids living it up on a the Bar None Ranch, working their summer away riding horses and tending to guests. Who can say they didn’t have a crush on the young Christine Taylor…and some of us even had a crush on a girl named Brad.

Shot in Tuscon, Arizona over the course of 2 years, there were a total of 65 episodes which were supposed to cover just one summer of the kid’s lives. There is an amazing website by photographer Chad Lau that showcases the location and its current condition.

It’s so sad when good shows come to an end…there are quite a few ending this season (LOST being one of my favorite). Again, another unfortunate side-effect of Geocities shutting down, most all of the information about Hey Dude is lost. I apologize for the lack of quality information and photos but here is what I could scrape up.

Mr. Benjamin Ernst – David Brisbin

The 58-year old has continued to act after the show. He was in Forrest Gump, Leaving Las Vegas, Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas, Erin Brockovich, The Adventures of Rock & Bullwinkle as well as many TV shows including The Wonder Years, Seinfeld, Ellen, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Melrose Place, The X Files, Boston Legal, Bones, Brothers & Sisters, NYPD Blue and most notably ER as Dr. Alexander Babcock.

He is married to actress Laura Innes (best known as Dr. Kerry Weaver on ER) and has two children, Cal (20 years old) and Mia (9 years old), who they adopted in 2002 from China.

She is currently living in Los Angeles with her husband Ben Stiller who she has a 7-year old daughter, Ella Olivia, with.

Bradley “Brad” Taylor – Kelly Brown

After the show she pretty much stopped acting, got married, and started a family. She currently lives in upstate New York with her husband whom she has one child with.

Ted McGriff – David Lascher

After the show he continued to act in TV including work on Rosanne, Full House, Step By Step, Beverly Hills 90210, Blossom, Clueless, Veronica’s Closet and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

The 37-year old is currently living in Beverly Hills with is wife Jill and their two children.

In 2006 he did a parody skit of American Idol on Last Call with Carson Daly where he acted as Ryan Seacrest. He has a MySpace page.

Danny Lightfoot – Joe Torres

After the show he had a small role in Groove. We continued to live in Tucson, Arizona where he grew up and where Hey Dude was filmed. There have been various rumors floating around since 2004 that he died from liver disease brought on by alcoholism but those have been false claims.

He currently lives in New Jersey where he works at a Toyota Dealership as a car salesman.

Benjamin “Buddy” Ernst, Jr. – Josh Tygiel

After the show he did no further acting and there is no information about his current work.

Jack Decker – Jonathan Galkin

After the show he did no further acting. He is the co-founder of quite the successful record label, DFA records, which he is still the label manager for.

Salute Your Shorts was based on the book Salute Your Shorts: Life at Summer Camp written by Steve Slavkin, and who later was the producer of the show. Debuting in 1991, Salute Your Shorts featured seven campers attending Camp Anawana. It was actually filmed in Griffith Park in Los Angeles, California.

Their counselor Kevin “Ug” Lee continued to look for ways of punishing the group. In the first episode, Bobby Budnick steals the new camper Michael’s boxer shorts and raises them on the flag pole. Hence the name, Salute Your Shorts!

Oddly enough there were only 2 seasons and 26 episodes. For whatever reason I feel like there were many more but guess not. It seems in 1992 MTV bought Nickelodeon and needed to make room (funding) for an animated show titled Bevis & Butthead. Salute Your Shorts has yet to be released on DVD but there are a few online petitions asking for them to be put out. There are also multiple Facebook fan pages. Fittingly it turns out the majority of fansites and photos were hosted on Geocities and most all of the stuff is gone now.

Kevin “Ug the Counselor” Lee – Kirk Baily

The 57-year-old Baily has continued to work in the movie industry. After the show he did some further acting with roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 3rd Rock From the Sun and Boy Meets World. The 33 year old is currently living in Los Angeles and is lead guitarist for the indie rock band Rilo Kiley and the lead singer and guitarist for The Elected. Both bands have received high critical acclaim and enjoyed modest success although neither currently have plans for the future. He composed the score for the film Don’s Plum but because of a lawsuit it was only released as a Region 2 DVD. We was dating/engaged to actress Winona Ryder for nearly a year but in August of 2008 the couple split up. In 2009 he wrote and directed Water Pills starring Winona.

You know, it’s easy to look back at the past through rose-colored glasses and claim that everything was better when we were kids, but guess what: it wasn’t. In fact, things were objectively worse in a lot of ways (are you really going to tell me that a broken-down Nintendo Entertainment System is better than an Xbox 360?). But one thing will always be true: Saturday morning cartoons suck. For every masterpiece like a Ren & Stimpy, there’s 20 completely abysmal abortions that kids watch because kids are stupid. Read more here.

So, you need to pass a history report and the only way to do this is to go back in time and kidnap a bunch of famous people, or you need to get the hell out of Dodge because you just watched a bunch of Libyans shoot up the crazy old man who is your only friend. Or maybe you just want to go back in time to amaze and seduce peasant girls with your iPhone. We’ve all been there. The only problem is coming up with a way to make it happen. Well, luckily for you, we here at Heavy have compiled a handy list of time travel methods, each with their various benefits and drawbacks, for you to peruse. Read more.

Take a moment to read through the previous episodes, especially the first one if you haven’t already. It will give you a better understanding of the “characters” involved with the show and with the rules and procedures for the BBQ competition circuit.

BBQ Pitmasters Episode 1 Smokin’ in Mesquite Nevada Open BBQ Championships
BBQ Pitmasters Episode 2 Murphysboro Barbecue Cook-off
BBQ Pitmasters Episode 3 Decatur Riverfest Cook Off
BBQ Pitmasters Episode 4 American Royal Invitational

This episode was the American Royal Open held in Kansas City, Missouri. Held right on the back of the Invitational which took place Friday & Saturday October 2-3, 2009. The Open took place on Sunday and as it’s name implies is not exclusive with is competitors as you can see with the nearly 500 who have entered.

This is one of the largest BBQ competitions in the nation…so any finish remotely near the top is darn good. One of things about the American Royal Open is that there is a group of competitors that tend to do it more as a party rather than a contest. More power to them but the real serious guys don’t appreciate that much. Harry Soo had an issue with this as the team stationed right next to him held a party with 300 guests that went into the wee hours of the night affecting his sleep.

Another interesting thing about this competition is that they require a 1:1 competitor to judge ratio. That means that there are a lot of judges that have been certified just for this contest…which also means that they’re brand new and don’t have experience. Myron discusses this a bit and brings up the point that their tastes are different and mentions that if he had chicken legs he would serve those over his thighs.

“I don’t give two shits if somebody stood up back there and held their hand up and took the damn oath of BBQ and says well hell I’ma certify BBQ, my ass. Ya know, just because you sit there and said some words how in the hell does that make you a judge?” All you’ve done back there, you took a damn oath to eat. And that’s all they are…damn eaters.” – Myron Mixon

“One error lead to a second error and second error lead to a third error. Ah, that has never happened to me in a contest where I’ve kind of lost my focus on 2 of the 4 meat entries. Usually we’re very focused but I was just tired. And waking that one hour late on the morning of the cook just really threw us off.” – Harry Soo

“I’m just 1 of 500 that cooked their ass off. I know everybody else did too…but I know what kind of damn stuff I had, same kind of stuff I got has probably done won me $100,000 this year already. Ya know, and you come here and you don’t even damn walk, I mean it’s damn heartbreaking. You know I could have stayed close to my damn house and won me 5-6 thousand dollars this weekend.” – Myron Mixon

As always there were some guys from the show that weren’t featured. This episode left out Johnny Trigg (mostly) and Tuffy Stone. I really don’t know why TLC decides to do this each time. Obviously it has something to do with what they think people will like to see and which teams have the most “drama” or sound bites.

I personally would love to at least see something on everyone each episode so you know they are there and kept in the loop on how they are doing. Even more surprising about this is that Johnny actually finished the best in the Overall category at 47th and Tuffy finished a respectful 70th. They did at least show a very small bit on Johnny at the end of the episode but really just on the relationship between him and Paul.
