Let’s face it. Geeks are cool. It isn’t that the people became cooler, but rather that technology has allowed it to where someone doesn’t have to have pocket protectors and an IQ in the 150s to be classified as a geek. The techies of the modern age are geeks based upon interest rather than uncoolness.
The “modern era” of techies really started in the 1990s when availability of personal computers, third generation gaming systems, and gadgets galore started creeping into everyone’s dorm room, not just those who looked like the cast of “Revenge of the Nerds.”
This has to be the one of the World’s coolest guitars ever. I guess I really should say geekiest. It might be hard to find someone that can shred hard enough and also be nerdy enough to deserve such an ax. From the maker of this fine instrument, Travis Stevens:
I used a vintage Millennium Falcon toy / playset for the body. As it’s an electric guitar, the body material is relatively unimportant (in comparison to acoustic instruments) so i just had to concern myself with building the necessary structural elements of the instrument into the toy.
Since the aging plastic wouldn’t be able to withstand the tension of the strings, I pieced together a maple block running from end to end inside the ship. The bridge, neck, and strap pins connect to this piece; while attached firmly with some powerful glues the toy itself is almost entirely cosmetic.
The top of the toy has been routed out for the electronics, including some switch activated LEDs. Those required separate battery packs, which I made accessible using the structure of the toy; one pack is hidden in the original battery compartment while the other is attached to the ramp door that was designed to open.

For fans of retro gaming garb, this table is a must have. The table was created by Erin McFadden of Dame Decor for Syd Bolton, curator of the Personal Computer Museum in Canada. Could it get any geekier?

It is the one question men have pondered throughout the ages… who would win in a fight? In this feature, “Who ya got?“, we take two people – fictional characters, historical figures, athletes, celebrities, etc. – and pit them against one another for your entertainment. We’re thoughtful like that.
Today, we are pitting two of the biggest nerds to have come out of the 80′s: Screech from Saved By The Bell; and Urkel from Family Matters. These loveable misfits aren’t exactly the fighting type, to be sure, but that’s not going to stop us here. Going into this battle, a few assumptions have been made. First, we’re assuming that both combatants are equally socially awkward and equally super smart. Also, it’s a pretty safe bet that direct physical combat between the two will not only be useless, but frigging hilarious.
Let’s see how they measure up:
