You would think that this wouldn’t be necessary but the sad reality is that more often than not you will find a handicapped (handi-cappable?) spot taken over my some asshat in a H2 Hummer or some dude in a sports car that feels he’s God’s gift to man and should be allowed to park wherever he chooses.
Fittingly, this convenience store has added a stipulation to their parking guidelines that will hopefully clarify exactly what this particular spot is intended for. The sad fact is that the individuals who do bogart these spaces might just be in need of them more than the actual folk they’re needed for.

Neither is obesity, so take walk and keep your fat a$$ out of the disabled spots.

Obesity, the last discrimination allowed, how do you feel?
Just because you can't get a handicapped placard for it, it doesn't mean it's not a crippling disability. Although, Jan Brewer seems to be doing alright.
I have limited mobility (delayed pressure urticaria) and I have a sports car.
Stop being a dick and worry about yourself instead of others.
Jimmy: As long as you have the requisite license plate or parking permit allowing you to park your sports car in a handicap parking space, then you're welcome to do so. Having a disability does not prevent you from owning a sports car. I think it is rather obvious without outright stating it that the article is referring to people who park their fancy cars in those spaces without a permit purely because they feel entitled to do so by their over-compensating vehicle.
Munky: Same thing goes, if they have a permit, they can park there, otherwise they can walk like everyone else. I'm not a skinny guy myself, and I nearly always park as far away from the store as I can just so I can get a few extra steps in. What always gets me is shopping malls that put in "stork" parking for pregnant women. Doctors encourage pregnant women to walk in order to get plenty of safe exercise. Yes many women do wind up on bed rest, but if that is the case, an extra 50 feet from the front of the mall isn't going to make any difference when they're going to walk several laps around the mall anyway. Stork parking at a shopping center only serves the people that shouldn't be using it anyway. The only place I feel stork parking is justified is at hospitals and doctors' offices,.
no need to get so defensive, Jimmy. i have no mobility in my legs and i have a sportier car too. but i can't count the number of times some asshole in some big ass SUV or something is taking up almost 2 spots and i can't even maneuver my itty bitty mini cooper out of a spot, much less actually get to my car because of my wheelchair. he's not being a dick, he's pointing out that other assholes have their heads too far up their asses to take other people into consideration.
The dude who wrote this article is a douchebag. Handi-capable? No, it's just handicapped, on top of which you wrote "Handi-Cappable". If you're going to write an article, how about using spell check. And for the record, the term "Handi-capable" comes from people who are handicapped being self-conscious about it, and trying to assert that they can do what everyone else can. If they're so "capable" then why do they need special parking spots, little electric chairs, etc. Oh, let me guess, it's because they're not capable of doing stuff like normal people.
One more point: I don't think I've ever seen a car without a handicapped permit parked in a handicapped spot. I don't think anyone is stupid enough to risk a $250 fine just for good parking. And I live in Miami, a city that's overrun by Spanish trash that refuse to speak English.
One more thing: You should really put a different picture up at the top of your article. You look like a complete douchebag in that picture. Seriously.
accessible parking spot would be the term you were looking for here I think.
oh and Rob. aside from being rude you are wrong. my husband drives a van with a lift on the side, so he can't get out of his van unless there is an accessible spot in many cases and there have been times when he has missed events for lack of parking, called me to park his van so he attend an event and best case scenario, park illegally to create his own space because some jerk without a placard, or sometimes using grandma's placard figured they were entitled to the spot. everyone knows enforcement of these laws is rare.
