If This Kid Can Smile, So Can You

This is a truly inspiring photo. This just shows the tremendous strength and courage that can be mustered by a child. Look the elation on his face. How many days how you gotten home and been in a bad mood? Have you ever gotten “bitchy” over your latte order coming out wrong? This kind of puts that all into perspective.

I’m not trying to say that you can’t ever be in a bad mood, but things like this make you think twice about what you’re upset about and if it really matters in the long run. This kid is my hero of the month. I would love to meet him. It will be interesting to see where he is and what he’s accomplished 10/15 years from now despite all of his hardships. I’ll bet he will have done quite a bit, if I’m not totally off-base. I’ll also bet that he doesn’t even consider himself to be hindered in any way.

  1. Tragically, I'm unable to smile due to a disability in my facial muscles. I'll bet this kid takes smiling for granted

  2. qwerty says:

good for him god fucked him over thats no reason hes a hero

  3. John DeBoer says:

    Best photo ever!!!

  4. You can absolutely see how happy the kid is. A lot of people don't realize how truly fortunate they are.

  5. Shaun says:

Thanks for sharing, this little guy is inspiring. I'll try to keep this in my perspective at times when I'd otherwise feel sorry for myself.

  6. tikitravel says:

Awesome! This little guy is so cute:)

  7. Rob says:

Great. they caught the kid smiling. because when they catch the kid frowning no one wants to look at that picture. People have good days and bad days. Legs or no legs. Glad the kid's happy, doesn't make him an inspiration, and doesn't mean I'm not allowed to be grumpy after a bad day at work

  8. AJ says:

Imagine his life without technology. Boy we have come a long way haven't we… and we still have a long way to go. To this kid, whoever you are, stay awesome.

Oh, and nice shirt too. :)

  9. Jenna Jameson says:

Despite all his hardships? He's got bionic legs. As far as I can tell he started off more lucky than most of us. His parents can afford to get him 5 sets of legs where most of us get 1. How does this show great strength and courage? If he has always had this 'problem' then he hasn't overcome anything. Someone is inspiring maybe if they had legs and then can laugh when they get chopped off.

  10. fivi says:

OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS LEGS?? just kidding i already saw this on Fireviews

  11. Nick says:

Good on ya sport =D his smile just lifted my spirits. Sure I'm not in the best mood, but this puts everything into perspective.

  12. Stronzo says:

Hardships? It looks like his family can afford some pretty nice prosthetics.

Although to someone born with legs and feet, that may seem sad… but he's not "handicapped." With today's technology and enough money, he can wear whatever legs he wants to… like Aimeee Mullens. http://www.ted.com/talks/aimee_mullins_prosthetic

Her friends are jealous when she wears an extra long and sexy pair of legs when she wears a fancy dress. And her cheeta-like running legs make her very fast indeed.

  13. Stronzo says:

It's wrong that his parents had his legs removed so they could experiment on him though.

  14. Jonathan Sandusky says:

    lego legs rock!…

  15. nextyoyoma says:

You know, this kid has never known anything different. If everyone had 4 arms, they would look at us with 2 and say "oh, how inspiring that they are so happy despite their disability." Obviously, our society is built around institutions that are designed for people with 4 appendages, but that doesn't mean that your life has to suck if you don't.

  16. sawyer says:

They are almost his natural legs because he was born with them, nice smile kid.

  17. Danielle says:

OMG!!! What a touching and inspirational picture. Kids have so much perseverance and strength.

  18. Patrick Bateman says:

They might as well give him the "grown up" pair of legs now. He will be at awkward proportions for about 17 years, but hey, it would be a lot cheaper.

Also, who cares if he is smiling; doesn't make him a god damn hero.

  19. no way says:

I know this article is written with the best intentions, but it is actually pretty insulting and patronizing towards the disabled. Implying that a legless child being happy is 'inspiring' is really quite strange. I'm willing to bet the writer and most of the people posting comments here have very few disabled friends. NEWSFLASH: disabled people are capable of being happy!!

  20. jose soto says:

Just because people got a little more money don't mean they are bad.Maybe instead of wasting the money on partying or overeating and drinking, some people saved that money and can afford better things. There is always somebody with less than what we have…

  21. MamaKelly says:

Cool Picture, but the writer is rather condescending, sorta implies this kids life is soo hard it’s amazing he can smile. it’s obviously all he has ever known so yeah he probably has a harder time with some things but that doesn’t mean his quality of life is all that different than everyone else. why wouldn’t he smile? using people with disabilities as an inspiration to appreciate your own life is insulting, it’s like saying “hey your life might suck, but at least you are better off than people with disabilities.” think about it.

  22. Johnny says:

The kids I feel sorry for are the kids who are just legs beside him :(

  23. Jamie Cooper says:

I think it's great that this boy has been able to walk and participate in as much life has to offer as he can

as a parent of a child confined to a wheelchair, stories like this inspire hope. while the shitty comments inspire me to tell my kid to run over fuckheads like you!

you have no idea of the types of activities and life experiences children born with physical limitations have to cope with, and endlessly try to overcome.

I truly hope you remember how crass you were when or if something like this happens to you!

while my child is a reasonable and caring person, I have become kinda jaded with seeing how more and more he is squeezed out of locations, opportunities, and life experiences the able bodied take for granted while they mock the less fortunate.

to those of you who mock and jeer at this story, if I ever get a chance I will make you understand, it's too bad we can't just cut your legs off and give them to someone who would appreciate and realize just how valuable they are.

This is awesome!! Truly inspiring. Oral Adams is very right, it puts things in perspective. I really like this.

  25. Will says:

Unfair advantage, he never has to worry about stubbing his toes

  26. Pedobear says:

    Too bad he isn't a girl :-(.

  27. scooter says:

of course he is smiling, he will have METAL LEGS his whole life, n didnt have to waste tha tax payers money getting them blown of in tha war……

  28. andrea says:

Hey Mr. Hilarious, you should call yourself Mr. Fuck tard cause thats what you are. Ignorant ass bastard!!! Also qwerty I hope you get fucked over too you peice of crap, this is a little boy who prob struggles just with everday life….. when really dumbshits like you should have to be the one who strggle, sounds like you need too, not an innocent little boy!!!

  29. Dont worry about it says:

You are grown adults replying with your childish comments making fun of a little boy that has a disadvantage? Who raised you people? Did you have loving parents? People like you are really sad and pathetic and I hope none of you have kids because believe me the world does not need anymore spawns of people like you. You kow I am sure that he did not ask that his picture be posted on the internet for all the world to see so you could make fun of him or feel sorry for him or whatever you may feel for him if anything. I do hope that if you sad people do have children that they at least learn some proper manners and learn how to treat people with dignity no matter what the situation.

Also about his parents having plenty of money to get him these legs, Well good for them!! At least he is being treated with love and his parents are taking care of him instead of sitting on their butts collecting money from the government so they can go get their next beer or pack of ciggarettes or worse! I mean the odasity of his parents to actually to care for their child getting him the best of the best!! How dare they!! This is the attitude of you people and it is really pathetic.

This is not about a man that had his legs blown off in a war or anything else, It is about a little boy that has no legs!! Which you cannot compare to a grown man that has been to war. No one is saying I do not believe if you read again that you can never have a bad day but is saying compared to some of the things that people think are tragedies there is a whole lot worse out there. Breaking a nail or having a bad hair day, I think most of you would take over having to wear prostetic legs!! I am sure the boy will get enough trash talk from the kids his own age, He does not need to get it from some adults that act like children!!

  30. andrea says:

Hell ya….. don't worry about it… you rock, I completly agree!!!!

  31. Dana says:

Who even said his parents had money to buy him several pairs of leg's?! They could be in debt for the rest of their lives taking care of this disability! Just wondering… do you think that only rich people have disabled children??? The ignorance is killing me!!! If you noticed it not for him to choose what he wants to wear that day! It is what he needs as he grows! Also wow I am too suprised that grown adult's could be so cruel. I am begining to think that some of you are just instigator's that get off on pissing people off!!!! If so good job!!! You have done it!!! Have a nice life and lose a limb or too on the way through you heartless bastards!!!!

  32. andrea says:

    LOL give em hell Dana!!!

  33. I hate niggers says:

Shut your fucking cock hole you nigger lover!

  34. Nothing like an inspiring picture of a happy child with no legs to bring out a dearth of repulsive asshole trolls lining up to take a shit on it. God forbid basement dwelling losers let anyone else just enjoy an inspiring moment in peace.
