There are stories abound about women being mistreated in the military and it has caused many to claim that this “new” development is something that should be rethought. In reality, women have participated in war since before Joan of Arc.

There are certain things in this world that people prefer to avoid at all costs. Being stuck on phone support is one of them. It takes a particular personality-type to be able to sit on hold or work their way through seemingly-endless menus without losing at least a little of their sanity. It takes a completely different personality-type to sit on the other end of the phone.

There are update-everything-everywhere-Facebook-users. There are tweet-as-much-boring-bs-as-possible-Twitter-users. There’s the good ol’ sound-as-dumb-and-bigoted-as-possible-Youtube-users. All of them are annoying. None of them compare to the avid Tumblr user.

People. The greatest idea, a huge pile of money, and all of the right situations within a startup can equate to failure without the right “human capital” running and applying a startup’s concepts and initiatives.

Upon seeing the title, I thought it was a typo. I was wrong.

A “pivot” in the tech world often means the kiss of death. When a company pivots, it takes its original or current business model and makes dramatic changes to push them in a different, hopefully more profitable direction. Many try. Few succeed.

The seven below are distinct exceptions. With Gowalla’s recent acquisition by Facebook, it culminated the shift that the company has been going through for a while. They lost to Foursquare and needed a change. Now, the talent will be preserved in a stable company and the work can be applied to a new platform (or ditched altogether.
