Earlier today in San Diego, a 61-year old driver, James Sikes’ Toyota Prius took over control from him. While traveling down the CA 8 East freeway. Sikes’ had accelerated to pass another vehicle when his pedal stuck bringing the car to speeds of nearly 90 MPH. This continued for roughly 30 miles before CHP was able to box the Prius in and slowly bring it to a stop.

Put the engine in neutral, let it red line and brake….. He obviously didn't do everything in his power to stop it….

  2. lol says:

So his Prius was speeding for 20 full minutes, and at no point during this 20 minutes he thought to switch to neutral or just turn off the engine? he just wants to get more money from his lawsuit obviously.

Smells like a hoax. Perhaps the greatest negative campaigning hoax ever, but still a hoax.

  4. Bob says:

Remember kids, if something like this ever happens to you, turn the key back one notch to "accessory", and then break to a stop.

  5. IDON'TKnowItAll says:

A Prius doesn't have a key, or a traditional shift lever. The driver could not switch to neutral or shut the key off because it is all electronic.

  6. Michael Chastain says:

Yeah, except none of that is really true. Twas all a hoax.
